Throwback: Missing Harold

I knew that when I left BYU for the spring/summer, that I would definitely miss my friends. But I didn’t realize that I would miss other things about BaeYU. I miss not having to make my own food (but not the Cannon Center itself…I was ecstatic to get out of there) and creamery ice cream (always an inward struggle to get graham canyon or cookie dough). I miss looking outside my window and seeing mountains that change color with the seasons. I miss learning and discovering new things in my classes. (Disclaimer: some classes I don’t miss at all…American Heritage, I’m thinking of you.) And I miss Harold. I saw him almost every day—we became really close second semester. Yes, the Harold B. Lee Library was my constant companion: before and after class, during finals week, and even until the wee hours in the middle of the night. Extended hours until 2 am at the berry during finals week were almost as fun as Magic Mornings at Disneyland. My favorite time of the year right there. The fourth and fifth floors were my regular homes. I soon figured out where the best bathrooms were, where the coldest drinking fountains were, and even which tables had outlets that didn’t work. Yet I know there is more to discover (it wasn’t until the end of the year that Megan showed me the “super secret spot” in a hallway on the fifth floor, but, alas, only the outlets in the walls, not the tables, work over there). Maybe next semester I’ll adventure down to the first and second floors (but we all know they have worse service than the top floors). Maybe I’ll commit to Megan’s challenge to sit in every single cubicle (not going to happen). But I do miss the berry. It was my second home. I only really needed three buildings on campus: my dorm room, the HBLL, and the Wilkinson center. Don’t even get me started on the Cougareat…next year I’ll definitely miss buying Chick-fil-a with my meal plan. Wrap Wednesday will forever live on in our memories. Not even Subway or Jamba Juice could compare to the magic of eating chick-fil-a fries with their signature chick-fil-a sauce. Now too bad I can’t eat Chick-fil-a in the library…
