Martha's Musings
I've been thinking about this quote from Martha Washington a lot lately. She said, "I am determined to be cheerful and happy in whatever situation I may find myself. For I have learned that the greater part of our misery or unhappiness is determined not by our circumstance but by our disposition." I have a tendency to complain or be unhappy in situations where I am not completely comfortable or satisfied. But usually that's almost every situation in life. I can't fully experience life and learn important lessons if I am not stepping out of my comfort zone and trying new things. Jeffrey R. Holland said that "no misfortune is so bad that whining about it won't make it worse." So why complain? What are the benefits of complaining? There are none. So instead I will be cheerful and happy, for it is so much better going through life with positivity. Life doesn't seem so hard, and it is easy to see the good out of every circumstance. Sometime it is terribly difficult to see the positive outcomes of a certain situation, but it helps me so much. Why should I complain when I have so much to be grateful for? As I show gratitude for all my circumstances, I become cheerful and happy. Through this changed disposition, my unhappiness, nervousness, and dissatisfaction go away. Sometimes it is difficult to show happiness, but it is oh so worth it.
You have always been an example to me when it comes to being cheerful, positive and happy. It is something you are so good at--Uncle Ricky would be proud. :-)
