"Come What May"

Come What May

Her call had come, finally it arrived,
Unknown places and countries far and wide
So with her willing heart, she read the call
“Come what may and love it, rise and stand tall.”

She hopped the plane, was ready to leave behind
Family and friends she would soon come back to find
Then some tears were shed, it is true
Come what may and love it,
She was headed for something new.

The new freezing airs chilled her to the bone,
Her sunny disposition was not too prone.
Her trainer said, “Now follow me.
Come what may and love it,
For many lessons you will see.”

She learned and grew and was taught very much
About finding and teaching and the such.
She had fun, enjoying every day.
Come what may and love it,
For her, pretty easy to say.

She had many lessons that she was learning
In the Lord’s vineyard as she was pruning.
Companions would come and then go,
Come what may and love it,
In new areas she did sow.

But then one day she stopped and hit a wall
It had become hard to fulfill the call.
She whispered, “now it’s hard to say,
‘Come what may and love it,’
Please keep my enemies at bay.”

Some days she felt tormented on e’ry side
While serving the Lord, what e’er He’d decide.
Thoughts would afflict her, people ignored her
She helplessly said, “God speaks today, sir.”

She would stumble home, asking, “why so hard?”
Often feeling she was dealt the wrong card.
Finally she turned to the One who knew best
Deciding to put her faith to the test.

She took the blue book and fell to her knees.
Praying there, she felt her heart start to seize.
She felt a voice ring to her heart,
“Come what may and love it,”
She heard, was the very first part.

“Do you remember that lesson, my child?”
He asked. “I know that you’ve been meek and mild.
You’ve been humble to my every will,
But now you’ve stopped at this difficult hill.

I know you wanted the ninety-nine sheep,
But I sent you to find the one to keep
So find comfort in me when it gets tough
I know what it’s like to be in the rough.

So when you cannot go on anymore
Just fall back on me, I’ve been there before.
Think of these words, simple and true:
Come what may and love it,
Perform the works you see me do.”

She closed the prayer in the name of the Son
She knew that her duty had just begun.
Determined again, in word and in deed,
To go find His lambs she needed to feed.

And through the Lord’s joy, her burdens were light
As she served His flocks with all of her might
When she couldn’t go on anymore
“Come what may and love it”
That phrase was the echoing score.

She served every day up until the last
She couldn’t believe it was all in the past
She knew that it was time to go.
Come what may and love it,
That truth no longer a woe.

As she boarded the plane, she knew she had
Given her best, whether happy or sad.
She had embraced well every day,
“Come what may and love it.”
She whispered, as she flew away.

Grateful for this time, so precious and short
That had helped her in a new kind of sort,
For when life was hard, she knew what to say,
Come what may and love it each and e’ry day.
